Hanaqpacha Intiq Sombran

Cusco, Peru, 2004

A collaboration with Q'ero Nation practitioners:
Mariano Quispe Flores, Santiago Quispe Qhapaq, Benito Apaza Lunasco, Lorenzo Qhapaq Apaza, and Nicolas Flores Apaza

Jennifer initiated this installation during her time in Cusco, bringing a military parachute from the United States specifically for the project. The Q'ero collaborators created over 1,000 pom poms, traditionally used in their "ch'ullos" (woven hats). The parachute symbolically represented "Inti" (the sun), a central element in Q'ero cosmology. The installation featured a traditional Inti pattern created with pom poms, visible only when viewed from beneath the parachute.
