Patsy Craig / AWA
Patsy lives nearby in Huaran and can lead excursions of 1-3 days to visit and learn from weaving communities in the Lares district above the Sacred Valley, an area revered for its singularly beautiful and sophisticated textile production. This immersion will expose artists to traditional weaving techniques and motifs while very importantly addressing issues of cultural appropriation.
These excursions can be individually tailored to the specific needs of the artists and can be discussed and developed with more detail. For the past 6 years Patsy has been based in Cusco, Peru where she founded and operates a cultural project called AWA, providing platforms from which to expand Indigenous worldviews. She currently works with Indigenous communities in both the Andes mountains and Amazon jungle co-creating exhibitions representing their ancestral knowledge and the environmental issues affecting their culture and territories. Currently she is working on a project with remote Andean communities in the Cusco region exploring representations of climate change within traditional weaving motifs.
